is it not appropriate to wear a mess dress/dinner dress for enlisted to a wedding? USN question?
Crackerjacks I know are authorized, i was specifically asked and agree that it looks better for a wedding to wear my enlisted mess dress. it's my brothers wedding and i'm best man and he specifically asked that I wear it because he already got matching tux style for all the other guys. So would it be appropriate dress to wear my dinner dress, the tuxedo style for the navy enlisted?

- we are encouraged in the Marines to wear our dress blues to formal dinners and weddings, i am sure the Navy has similar views.
- My husband is in then Marines and he wore his Blues to a wedding...I think it is encouraged. I would think it would be pretty much the same for the Navy.
- I would think so...my hubby was in a wedding and wore is army blues...actually all the groomsman wore them and it looked really nice!!!
- Yes it is
- I am not familiar with Navy protocol, however. The restrictions of wearing the uniform are normally reserved for those of us no longer in. I have never heard of active duty personnel being told not to wear them to formal functions. Keep in mind that you will need to take it off before you get busy with the effects of toasting. In others words stay sober and keep your conduct in line while you have it on. I once wore my greens to a wedding in San Francisco at the suggestion of my 1st Sgt. SSG US Army 73-82
- For non-military (and non-political) functions such as a civilian wedding, as long as you wear the uniform completely and appropriately, you can choose which to wear.
- Yes it would.
- if it's an evening wedding with the cutaway tux coats( the short jacket) for the other groomsmen, then wearing Dinner Mess Dress is appropriate. Other wise, Crackerjacks are perfectly fine.
